Lake Forest Graduate School of Management (LFGSM) Alumni Relations hosted the 26th Annual Hotchkiss Scholar (HS) Recognition Dinner on Tuesday, October 21, 2009 at the Lake Forest Campus.  The event started with a cocktail reception.  The key message of this year’s event, “Sustainability: Competitive Advantage or Just a Fad?” was delivered by sustainability expert Craig Raben, HS ‘03, former VP, EHS Operations, Cardinal Health and LFGSM faculty member.

During his address, Craig noted all industries are impacted by an unsustainable path which constitutes a business issue that can be resolved by using common traits and experiences to develop innovative programs.  He used the examples of several companies that have responded to a call to action by implementing sustainable practices, highlighting LFGSM recent sustainability initiatives.  Following the key message, Joan Steltmann, VP of Enterprise Advancement, gave updates and highlights of recent developments taking place at LFGSM and acknowledged the diligence of both the Hotchkiss Scholar Phone-a-Thon Team and Hotchkiss Happenings volunteers.

This year we honored 11 new Hotchkiss Scholars and celebrated an unprecedented accomplishment.  For the first time since the inception of our program in 1984, each class of 2009 Hotchkiss Scholar also graduated with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average.  This great achievement is a result of dedicated, hard-working students and we commend our 2009 scholars on a job well done.

This year’s event was a great success that is shared not only by the EA Team, but other staff members whose tireless effort and considerate volunteering ensured a seamless program and event.  Our list of volunteers include:  Olivia Townsend, Malcolm Douglas, Stefan Lewandowski, Frank Brletich, Rick Webber, and Arlene Mayzel with special thanks to Prabs Moodley, Nimesh Jhaveri, and Kevin Moodley, our class of 2008 alumni volunteers.  Thanks again.

Join us next year as we continue to celebrate the achievements of the top 5% in each graduating class.
