2007-2008 Student FAFSA Instructions

If you have questions about FAFSA, go here to contact Terry Hamlin, LFGSM Alternative Financing Coordinator.

Lake Forest Graduate School of Management participates in the Federal Family Educational Loan Program, which provides students with subsidized and unsubsidized loans. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required, and must be completed and submitted to the U.S. Department of Education.

Signing the FAFSA

The FAFSA, filed on-line, can be signed by first applying for a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov. Your PIN will be delivered to you electronically if you provide an e-mail address; otherwise it will be mailed. Keep your PIN in a safe location. It will enable you to electronically sign your FAFSA and your Renewal FAFSA, make corrections, and request a duplicate copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR). Signing the FAFSA with your PIN reduces processing time to approximately one week.

The FAFSA can also be signed by printing and mailing the signature page to Federal Student Aid Programs. The mailing address is included on the page.

Filing the FAFSA

You may submit the FAFSA one of two ways – online or by U.S. Mail.

You can file your FAFSA electronically at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. Student computers with Internet access are available at all LFGSM campuses. Inquire at the reception desk for further information. If you wish to save your data, bring a formatted floppy disk with you.

FAFSA processing time is one week if signed with a PIN (see above) or two to three weeks if the signature page is mailed. When submitting your application, print out the following:

  1. Copy of Submitted Data
  2. Signature Page if you are NOT using a PIN
  3. Final Page with Confirmation Stamp and Expected Family Contribution (EFC)

Item numbers 1 and 3 above may be faxed to Terry Hamlin, Alternative Financing Coordinator, to expedite the loan process. Item number 2 above, if used, should be completed and mailed to the address listed on the page.

You can file your FAFSA by U.S. Mail using an official hard copy of the FAFSA application. Go here to request a hard copy from Terry Hamlin, Alternative Finance Coordinator. Once you have completed your FAFSA, make a copy of the application for your records and mail the original form, completed and signed, in the pre-addressed envelope that is provided. Processing time for FAFSAs submitted by U.S. Mail is four to six weeks.
