Each year, in recognition of outstanding teaching and business leader excellence at the School, the graduating class nominates one faculty member to receive the Distinguished Faculty Award. During the Commencement Ceremonies, graduate Dr. Jarmila Brunckova introduced Z. John Babij as the Class of 2009’s choice for the Award.
Since joining LFGSM in 2001, Babij has demonstrated sincere commitment to advancing the School’s mission by sharing his vast global business experience and expertise. He has taught a total of 23 courses, including Global Business and Diversity, International Management and Global Marketing.
Recounting her classmates’ sentiments, Brunckova praised Babij’s extraordinary passion for global business, engaging teaching style and ability to bring real-world experiences to life in the classroom. For his students, Babij’s impact extends beyond his role as an instructor. “John acted as a mentor to the entire class, offering advice, encouragement and support,” Brunckova said.
Accepting the Award, Babij shared his global business experience, giving an overview of the dramatic changes that have taken place in world commerce over the years.
Expressing his appreciation for the Award, Babij closed his remarks by reflecting on his experience as an instructor. “Sometimes it feels like I’m the audience, sometimes the actor and sometimes the author of the script,” he said. “But let me assure you when you’re in the near peer collegial environment at LFGSM and you reach out to your class, and they reach back to you, you experience an energy and intense engagement. It is then that I am absolutely persuaded in my marrow about the real nature of this avocation.”
